After more than a decade since our establishment as a research and information centre based at the University of Edinburgh, we are delighted to announce that Bilingualism Matters has launched as a spin-out social enterprise.

This new structure will enable us as an organisation to better serve our international network of research centres and further our collective mission to communicate research findings on bilingualism and language learning to the wider public.

We celebrated the official launch on 30 March 2022 in Edinburgh, where the new social enterprise is based. The event was live-streamed to enable everyone around the world interested in the work of Bilingualism Matters to join us. If you were unable to attend for any reason, you can watch the recording of the launch event on video below or by visiting our new YouTube channel.

Bilingualism Matters at the University of Edinburgh will continue to operate as a branch member of the new social enterprise, offering talks and support within the Edinburgh area and around Scotland.

Keep an eye on our social media accounts over the coming weeks and months for special features spotlighting each of our branches across the world and key people leading Bilingualism Matters.

We hope you will join us on this new chapter of our work ensuring that information about living with more than one language is widely available to help people make decisions about languages in their lives based on facts, rather than myths and misconceptions. Because we believe that bilingualism matters!
