In the school year 2018-2019 and in 2019–2020, weekly language gatherings were organized for Sámi pupils, grades 1–7, in Tromsø municipality. The offer was called Romssa giellariššu (‘Tromsø language shower’), and it was a collaboration between the municipality and UiT The Arctic University of Norway (UiT). The goal was to establish an arena that serves to strengthen the productive Sámi skills among the pupils as well as to establish social ties between Sámi pupils from various schools in the municipality. In the school year 2019–2020, a total of 49 primary school pupils participated in the language shower. The language shower had a positive effect. A clear majority of the parents were very satisfied with the offer, and a clear majority of them had the impression that their children also enjoyed it.
